Sharpsville woman injured in 1-80 crash

SHARON, Pa. — A Sharpsville woman was in critical condition at St. Elizabeth Health Center late tonight after a head-on crash with a tractor- trailer on Interstate 80 in Mercer County.

Pennsylvania State Police said Maureen J. Maykowski, 45, was traveling in the wrong direction on westbound lanes of the interstate when the crash occurred at 1:36 a.m. Monday.

Police said the tractor-trailer, driven by William Jenkins, 42, of Youngsville, Pa., drove over the top of Maykwoski’s Chevrolet Cavalier. Police said she had to be extricated from the car by Shenango Township Volunteer Firefighters. Jenkins suffered minor injuries, police said.
