Poland’s leash law still isn’t in effect
POLAND — A law regulating unleashed pets to the portion of the Poland Municipal Forest between Butler Trail and Interstate 680 that was passed at last month’s council meeting is not yet in effect.
Ohio law states that pets need to be leashed, caged or under reasonable control, said attorney Damian DeGenova.
Because of complaints against pets running free in the forest, the forest board proposed a specific area of the forest for unleashed pets.
Now, there are complaints about a flawed passage of the law, said Council President Joe Mazur. A majority of the current members voted for the law, but that majority was not a majority of elected members.
“So is it a law or isn’t it a law?” Mazur said. “Right now it’s on hold.”
Council is waiting for an answer from DeGenova. He said the law should go into effect the beginning of January.
