OSU women roll easy against YSU, 84-50
COLUMBUS (AP) — Freshman center Jantel Lavender had 16 points and 10 rebounds and No. 18 Ohio State defeated Youngstown State 84-50 on Wednesday night.
Marscilla Packer had 12 points and Ashlee Trebilcock and Star Allen had 11 for the Buckeyes (8-2).
Jessica Schloemp scored 12 and Kelsey Gurganus and Heather Karner put up 10 each for the Penguins, who lost their third straight.
Ohio State outscored the Penguins (5-6) by 22 in the second half for its third straight win and fourth of the season by at least 30 points.
Lavender paced the Buckeyes to a 37-25 halftime lead with 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the floor. Trebilcock hit one of Ohio State’s two 3-pointers in the half and had eight points to help Ohio State overcome an early deficit.
Youngstown State was ahead 13-9 with 13:30 left in the first half before Packer hit a 3-pointer to spark a 12-0 streak over the next three minutes, a run that was aided by three steals.
Ohio State finished the game with 28 points off turnovers compared to eight for Youngstown State. The Buckeyes hit 32 of 57 field goals (56 percent) while the Penguins were 20-of-60 (33 percent).
