Man charged in fatal accidental shooting

STRUTHERS — The reported trigger man in the accidental shooting of an 18-year-old Poland woman pleaded innocent to charges of negligent homicide.

Daniel A. Buccino, 20, appeared in Struthers Municipal Court on Wednesday.

A 2007 Poland Seminary High School graduate, Marissa Plakosh, was shot fatally in the neck early Saturday in her family’s great room. Poland Township police report Buccino was handling a 9 mm semiautomatic pistol belonging to the victim’s brother when the gun discharged.

After an investigation by police, charges against Buccino were reduced Monday from felonious reckless homicide to negligent homicide, a first-degree misdemeanor.

He faces six months in jail and a $1,000 fine if convicted on that charge.

A pretrial hearing has been set for 9:30 a.m. March 7 in Struthers Municipal Court. Trial is scheduled to begin at 9:45 a.m. June 16, in the same courtroom. Buccino is being represented by Atty. Gerald Ingram.
