Galbraith leads way in Struthers’ victory


She scored all 13 points in the third quarter of a 61-29 win over Poland.

STRUTHERS — Ashley Galbraith scored all 13 of her team’s points in the third quarter Wednesday as the Struthers High girls basketball team defeated Poland, 61-29.

Galbraith finished with 22 points for the Wildcats (5-1, 1-1 Metro Athletic Conference).

Dana Mathews scored 16 points and she got the Wildcats rolling by making three 3-pointers in the first quarter. Halle Minchin-Skook’s 11 points included three 3-pointers.

For the Bulldogs (1-5, 1-1), Michelle Benson scored 11 points.

Canfield 88,
Campbell 22

CANFIELD — The Cardinals put five players in double figures and shut out the Red Devils in the first quarter.

Bryanne Halfhill paced the Cardinals (5-1, 2-0 MAC) with 20 points while Kate Popovec added 19 points and 13 rebounds.

Jillian Halfhill tacked on 17 points and Melissa West and Rachael O’Hara had 11 and 10 points, respectively.

The Cardinals were in command from the start, jumping out to a 25-0 first-quarter lead, increased that to 46-8 at intermission against the Red Devils (0-5, 0-3).

Danielle Bell had 10 points to lead Campbell, which committed 28 turnovers and was outrebounded 45-18.

Howland 63,
East Liverpool 23

HOWLAND — Alexa Williams had 23 points and Kelly Barzak 19 for Howland which took a 19-3 first-quarter lead en route to its seventh straight victory.

Williams also had 12 of Howland’s 32 rebounds while Barzak grabbed 11. Of her team’s 14 assists, Williams had four.

Brittany Tomeselli’s eight points paced the Potters (2-4, 1-2).

Salem 43, Niles 24

SALEM —The Quakers jumped out ahead of Niles early and rolled easily to their fourth victory.

Brittany Ritchie paced the Quakers (4-2, 1-1 MAC), with 16 points while Amy Scullion added 15. Those two combined for 19 of the Quakers 38 rebounds.

Niles (3-4, 0-2) was led by Nina Gabrelcik with eight points. The Dragons had just 15 rebounds.

Boardman 84, Fitch 46

AUSTINTOWN — Boardman’s 23-14 first-quarter lead was extended to a 51-21 halftime bulge as the Spartans dominated.

Darryce Moore had 14 of her 22 points in the first half while Courtney Schiffauer added 18 points.

Boardman converted 11 of 12 free throws — all in the first half. The Spartans didn’t go to the foul line in the second half.

Schiffauer sank 4 of 4 foul shots.

Junior Sammie Rovnak had 11 points and senior Rachel Rouan added 10 for the Falcons (2-6).

Warren JFK 15

WARREN — Paige Kleric scored 10 points for the Golden Eagles.

West Branch 49,
Marlington 39

BELOIT — West Branch used a big third quarter to pull away and defeat Marlington.

The Warriors outscored the visitors 20-7 in the quarter after trailing 21-16 at halftime.

Amanda Stiffler led the Warriors (4-5, 4-2 NBC) with 17 points and seven rebounds. Courtney Salvino added 11 and Emilee Zets had 10 for the winners.

Brittany Blevins led Marlington (0-7) with 13 points.

Southeast 54,
Crestwood 36

RAVENNA — Mya Levels scored 19 points and Lindsay Speidel added 16 as Southeast rolled past Crestwood.

The Pirates jumped out to a 27-9 halftime lead and were never threatened.
