Fatal crash on Route 165

NEW SPRINGFIELD — Five people were hospitalized and one man was killed in a collision on state Route 165 Wednesday.

Justin P. Gillis, 26, of East Palestine, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was driving a Pontiac Vibe that collided with a Dodge Durango carrying four passengers at about 8:30 p.m. just east of state Route 617.

All five occupants of the truck were taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center with non-life threatening injuries, according to officials from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
