Boy’s parents sue over loaded gun

YOUNGSTOWN — The parents of a 12-year-old Cohasset Drive boy have sued a Winona Drive homeowner and a man who lives with her for more than $25,000, saying they negligently allowed a loaded gun to fall into the hands of another child, who accidentally shot the Cohasset Drive boy in the face.

Edward and Natalie Robinson Sr. filed the lawsuit Wednesday in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court against Christopher Brady and Lula Cox. The suit said Brady’s 11-year-old son negligently shot the 12-year-old with a .22-caliber handgun he found in the Cox-Brady residence Aug. 19. The victim was taken by ambulance to a hospital in critical, but stable, condition.

The victim told police the gun fell from a closet shelf onto the floor of the Winona Drive house while the boys were running around, and the gun discharged as the 11-year-old picked it up.

The shooter said the bullet hit the victim as the victim sat on the floor playing video games. As the shooter turned to put the gun back in the closet, the victim told him he had been shot, the shooter told police. Police confiscated the gun.

The phone number listed for the Cox residence has been disconnected.
