Pa. man held in National City robbery attempt

YOUNGSTOWN — A criminal complaint related to attempted bank robbery has been filed in U.S. District Court against Gregory W. Rook, 43, of Harrisburg, Pa.

The FBI said Rook entered National City Bank, 2533 Belmont Ave. on Tuesday morning with the intent to rob it.

Rook is being held in the Mahoning County jail pending an appearance in federal court.

FBI Special Agent Bonnie Hartman, who interviewed Rook, said in an affidavit that he admitted to the attempted robbery and signed a statement.

He didn’t realize there was a police officer behind him after he entered the bank.

Off-duty city Patrolman Robert Martini, working security at the bank, captured Rook and prevented the robbery, police said.
