Newton Falls plans for next year

NEWTON FALLS — The city and city Manager Jack Haney, are beginning to prepare for the upcoming year.

On Monday, Haney read to city council a list of possible projects for 2008.

He would like to examine the financial condition of the city so that he and council can get a better understanding and find an appropriate direction for the city’s finances.

He wants to update the inventory of infrastructure and work on obtaining grants for any possible improvements.

Working on a possible project to repair the Newton Falls dam is another main goal.

He would also like to review the inventory of fleet vehicles the city uses.

“We want to make sure we’re keeping people safe, while still managing to be effective and efficient,” said Haney.

Reviewing the activities and staffing at the community center and making updates to the zoning code were also listed.

Haney would like to review the city’s Web site. He said he wanted to find ways to put more information on the site with a limited staff.

“Working together, I think we can certainly do all this,” said Haney.

He also noted major accomplishments this year, including a project that upgraded the city’s waste treatment plant, completion of construction on the covered bridge, obtaining a $500,000 grant for new traffic signals and receiving a $100,000 grant toward the future project to separate storm and sewer water systems.
