Study recommendation

Here is the North East Ohio Universities Collaboration and Innovation Study Commission’s recommendation for the future of the Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine:

NEOUCOM should work with the provosts at the other four regional universities as well as with other groups to develop a plan that:

1. Expands medical health-related education capacity in Northeast Ohio.

2. Expands medical and health science-related research in the region.

3. Develops initiatives in a comprehensive approach to expanding the pipeline of students into medical and health-related education.

4. Develops initiatives to improve the health of citizens in Northeast Ohio.

Cleveland State University should be added to the existing BS/MD degree program, contingent upon necessary legislative actions being taken and funding being authorized to expand the program.

A review and revision of the governance of NEOUCOM should be examined with, at a minimum, public board members appointed by the governor to replace the present positions designated for the presidents of the three universities linked with NEOUCOM.
