McDonald board acts on money matters

years as a varsity football assistant.

McDONALD — The board of education Monday took action on financial matters related to school improvements and school district operation.

The board approved rolling over for another year part of a tax-free municipal note it had taken last year for $150,000.

The board has paid $30,000 toward the note and plans to borrow $120,000 on the new note for a year through Butler Wick & Co. Inc., Youngstown.

The money was borrowed for improvements for the school district, including purchase of scoreboards for the gymnasium, work on the high school football field and purchase of computers, schools Treasurer Thomas Radabaugh said.

The board has five years to pay off the debt.

The board also approved borrowed against receipts for a 3.7-mill emergency levy that was originally passed in 1988 and was renewed again in November to provide $200,000 a year.

Radabaugh said the district will borrow the whole $200,000 to be used for cash flow. He noted the district is allowed to borrow against first-year collections on the levy.

The board also approved a commendation for William Walker for his 30 years of service as an assistant varsity football coach. Walker does not plan to return to the post next year. He has been a guidance counselor at the school for 20 years.

The board also accepted a donation of $427.50 from the McDonald Basketball Boosters Association to purchase reversible practice jerseys for both the boys’ and girls’ varsity basketball teams.

The board bid farewell to eight-year board member Lou Ronghi, who did not seek re-election. Superintendent Michael Wasser said it had been a “pleasure working with him.”
