Pitt-Bradford 85, Thiel 79

GREENVILLE, Pa. — The Pitt-Bradford women’s basketball squad overcame a 43-35 halftime deficit. Katie Moore finished with a game-high 29 points to pace the Lady Panthers (2-7). Amanda Williams added 21 points and a game-high 12 rebounds while Michelle Kushner chipped in with 18 points and five rebounds. Pitt-Bradford shot 47.5 percent (29-61) from the field and converted on 82.1 percent (23-28) of its free throw attempts while finishing with a 43-35 advantage on the glass. Thiel (4-4) junior guard Amber Bodrick (Youngstown/Mooney High) finished with 25 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Tomcats. Freshman forward Kim Stitt (Hermitage/Hickory High) and senior forward Elysa Farrell (Greenville/Reynolds) each finished with 12. Thiel jumped out to a 21-6 lead at the 12:44 mark of the opening period and went into the break with a 43-35 lead. Pitt-Bradford was able to start strong in the second half and tied the game at 61-61 with just under eight minutes remaining. Sophomore guard Michelle George’s three-pointer with 4:20 to go extended the Tomcats’ lead to seven (75-68). Moore’s jumper with 1:40 to play tied the game at 79-79 and Kushner’s layup at the 1:04 mark gave the Lady Panthers just their second lead of the contest. Williams connected on four straight free throws down the stretch to seal the win. Thiel is set to return to action on Jan. 2 at Juniata College. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
