Playing career: He was a four-year starter at defensive back at Iowa. He was honorable mention All-American in 1982. He made 205 tackles and 10 interceptions.

Coaching career: Graduate assistant, Iowa, 1983-84; volunteer, Iowa, 1985-87; assistant coach, Kent State, 1988; defensive backs, Kansas State, 1989-90; co-defensive coordinator, Kansas State, 1991-95; defensive coordinator, Florida, 1996-98; head coach, Oklahoma, 1999-present.

Accolades: Associated Press National Coach of the Year and Woody Hayes National Coach of the Year in 2000; has coached the Sooners in three championship games; was defensive coordinator for Florida’s championship team in 1996.

Coaching family: His father, Ron, was Don Bucci’s defensive coordinator at Mooney. His brother, Ron Jr., is Mooney’s defensive coordinator. Another brother, Mike, is head coach at the University of Arizona. Another brother, Mark, is Arizona’s defensive coordinator.
