OHIO

Deer-gun season expanded

COLUMBUS — Ohio’s popular deer-gun season will run an additional weekend, Dec. 15-16, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife. The extra days were added in response to comments received from hunters for more weekend time to hunt.

“These two additional weekend days were a great success last year and were helpful to us in meeting our deer management goals,” said David M. Graham, chief of the ODNR. So far this season, hunters have taken 53,982 deer during the first six weeks of the statewide archery season, which began Sept. 30 and continues through Feb. 3.

Antlerless deer
permit restrictions

COLUMBUS — The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife reminds hunters that the antlerless deer permit, new for the 2007-08 hunting season, is valid only in urban hunting units or Division of Wildlife.

The antlerless deer permit was valid in all 88 counties during the statewide archery season through Sunday. The permit may continue to be used in urban units and Division of Wildlife controlled hunts as they occur through Feb. 3. Antlerless permits may not be used by gun hunters participating in the statewide deer-gun season, Dec. 15-16, or the statewide muzzleloader season Dec. 27-30.

Hunters with questions bout the new permitting system are encouraged to consult the 2007-08 Ohio Hunting Regulations, or contact their local Division of Wildlife district office.

Hunters are reminded that only one antlered deer may be harvested in Ohio, regardless of season, method or zone.
