Newton Falls big run sinks JFK


WARREN — The Newton Falls High basketball team went on a 20-0 run in Friday’s second half to defeat Warren JFK, 68-58.

Todd Medallis led the Tigers (2-2) with 23 points. Marcus Fowler scored 14 points, Cameron McCleary chipped in with 11 and Jae Leeworthy had 10.

For JFK (1-3), Nick Brown scored 19 including four 3-pointers, Marshaun Hainsworth had 11 and Howard James netted 10.

Champion 90, Bristol 40

CHAMPION — Joe Cvengros led the Golden Flashes (5-0) with 17 points. David Barnes contributed 14.

For Bristol (0-4), Jake Sloan scored 13.

Youngstown Christian 52,
Ledgemont 14

YOUNGSTOWN — John Pecchia scored 19 points, including three 3-point goals, to lead Youngstown Christian (5-1).

Victor Shaw added nine points for the winners, who bounced back from a two-point first quarter to dominate the game.

Joe Glogouski had eight points to lead Ledgemont, which fell behind by 38-8 after three quarters.

West Branch 63, Canton South 59

CANTON — Vic Pappas turned in an outstanding performance with 17 points, eight rebounds, six assists and five steals to propel West Branch (5-2, 3-2 Northeastern Buckeye Conference).

Trent Woods chipped in with 18 points and Steve McNeely with 14, including four 3-point goals, to bolster the Warriors.

West Branch made 10-for-12 from the foul line in the fourth quarter to help the Warriors prevail.

Farrell 85, Greenville 64

FARRELL — Junior forward Traphael Stubbs had 20 points and junior guard Marsel Holden added 17 points for the Steelers (4-2).

Senior center/forward Donald Jackson had 14 points for the winners, who jumped out to a 25-17 first-quarter lead.

Jordan Batt’s 19 points led Greenville.
