Canfield tops Liberty, 54-46, for third win

LIBERTY — The Canfield High basketball team put three players in double figures Friday to pull past Liberty, 54-46.

The Cardinals took charge with a 17-10 advantage in the second quarter.

Brian Fox led the Cardinals (3-1) with 14 points, while Matt Keating added 12 and Adam Muth 10. Fox also pulled down nine rebounds.

Isaiah Bell paced the Leopards (0-5) with a game-high 26 points and he also added 10 rebounds.

Canfield led 29-21 at halftime and then held off the Leopards down the stretch.

Niles 50, Salem 43

NILES — The Red Dragons (1-3, 1-0) posted their first win of the season and handed the Quakers (4-1, 0-1) their first loss in an opening Mahoning Athletic Conference game.

Ryan Frantz paced Niles with 17 points. Larry Sussman grabbed eight rebounds.

Austen Hutton led the Quakers with 14 points.

Brandon Holland added 11 and he grabbed 14 of 38 rebounds, had three assists and four steals.
