Ex-school secretary faces theft charge

WARREN — A former secretary for Warren City Schools has been indicted on a charge of theft in office over a school-related check for $53.63 that she cashed.

A Trumbull County grand jury indicted Renee A. VonMoos, 58, of 806 Eastland Avenue S.E., on the fifth-degree felony Thursday.

If convicted, she could spend up to 12 months in prison.

Police investigated after a parent at Jefferson Elementary, 903 Fifth St. S.W., reported in June that he paid the amount for a lost book. VonMoos deposited the check into her private checking account and failed to repay the school system for the check, a police report said.

VonMoos pleaded innocent to the charge in Warren Municipal Court in June and was bound over to the grand jury in October.

The theft is alleged to have occurred on or around May 25, 2007.
