Plant smolders, evacuation may end

CHAMPION — Eliminating the remaining smoke from the fire at a Champion plastics warehouse fire could take several days or several weeks, the director of the Trumbull County Haz-Mat team said.

But Haz-Mat director Don Waldron said the evacuation of about 100 residents and the cancellation of classes at nearby LaBrae schools could end as early as today.

On Wednesday, Champion Presbyterian Church was crowded with evacuees who were asked at around 4 a.m. to relocate to the church for their safety.
