Looking for a better compass

Looking for a better compass

EDITOR:

I would like to comment on an article in the Dec. 5 Vindicator (“Compass:” an atheist manifesto or a theological masterpiece?).

This, of course has reference to the movie “The Golden Compass” written by Philip Pullman.

First of all I want to comment on the author’s description as being and an atheist and an agnostic. This alone shows the ignorance of the writer. It is impossible to be both. An atheist is one who does not believe in God at all and wants to prove it as being so. Webster: “A person who believes that there is no God.” An agnostic is one who doesn’t know if he does believe in God or not. He’s waiting for proof but doesn’t really want it because it has been staring him in the face (the Bible) and he ignores it. Webster: “A person who thinks it is impossible to know whether there is a God or a future life, or anything beyond material phenomena.”

Pullman should be reading a dictionary instead of writing books about a subject of which he has little or no knowledge whatsoever. But, that is the common plight of all atheists and agnostics. With all of them ignorance is bliss. But the sad part is that our school systems allow evolution to be taught as fact and the Creation by any other source as garbage.

In Pullman’s own words, “I’m trying to undermine the basis of Christianity.” He wants to destroy the concept of a being (God) beyond himself and his belief. That statement alone should wake up all who DO believe in God to not support anything he does in books or movies. This only promotes him with funds to send out more of his garbage.

The next statement in your article “Books by atheists are best sellers.” I don’t know this to be fact or fiction, but if this is true it only shows/proves the moral decay of our nation.

For the sake of brevity, I add this last comment, even though others could be made on the article. The astounding comment is made: “Pullman’s central theme is that people should not follow orders and forfeit critical thought.” But that my friends is exactly what atheists and agnostics do. They run from criticism for fear of being exposed for what they really are, false teachers.

Who will pay for the Chevy?

EDITOR:

As the City of Youngstown tries to get a company to run the Chevy Centre it has become clear that George McKelvey’s legacy to the city is going to cost it money that it does not have. So one must ask, where is this money going to come from. The answer is not one the people of Youngstown will want to hear. There is only one place that it will come from, and that is the general fund — the same place that the fire, police and road crews are paid from.

So unless the mayor wants to raise taxes or put a new levy on the people, the safety forces and road crews will have to be cut back. This will also likely lead to the city pulling out of its deal with the county on the jail, which would mean the jail will likely not want our people in it.
As to Mayor Williams, he was trained in the shadow of George McKelvey, so all we will hear from him is how it is not the city at fault but someone else. The Chevy Centre has for two years made no money and one of the companies that wants to run is already saying that it will not make the money the city needs it to make. So it looks like the city will have fewer people working for it or taxes are going up to pay for it.
