Board announces 2007 awards

BOARDMAN — Brad Habbe and Dana Lisa are the Mahoning County Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services Board 2007 volunteer and professional of the year, respectively.
Habbe, a recovery advocate, received the Doyle O. Houston Excellence in Service Award, which recognizes a volunteer who has distinguished himself in service and support of substance abuse treatment and prevention services in Mahoning County.
Habbe became a leader in the recovery community after his graduation from felony drug court in 2001. He continues to support and encourage current drug court participants, and assisted in setting up AA/NA meetings in the Mahoning County Justice Center. Habbe recently became an auxiliary Mahoning County deputy sheriff, and he and his wife, Roseanne, live in Poland and have one child.
Lisa, who works at Meridian Services, a behavioral health-care organization that helps individuals and families affected by chemical dependency and mental health-related disorders, received the Professional of the Year Award. The award recognizes an employee in the Mahoning County network of alcohol and drug addiction service providers who has distinguished himself in service and support of substance abuse treatment and prevention services in Mahoning County. She is a treatment counselor who also works in the felony drug court.
Also at its recent annual holiday luncheon at the Holiday Inn, the ADAS board recognized the winners of its second annual countywide Red Ribbon Week poster contest for grades kindergarten through 12th. The poster topic was alcohol, drug and tobacco abuse prevention.
National Family Partnership is the sponsor of the National Red Ribbon Week campaign, the goal of which is a drug-free America.
