Explosion rocks Champion plant

Ten area fire departments and a hazardous materials response team were on the scene of an explosion and fire at a former Pacal Plastics plant on Kincaid East Road, Champion Township, early this evening.

A Trumbull County 911 dispatcher said she did not believe nearby homes were evacuated, and no injuries were reported. This particular building was believed to be a closed warehouse, but propane was at the site.

A city directory lists Nick Kontos as the owner of the Niles-based company.
