Arrested in break-in try

YOUNGSTOWN — City police arrested and jailed a 54-year-old man on an attempted burglary charge shortly after a woman told them she observed him trying to break into a house in the 200 block of Fairgreen Avenue while she was inside. James Kovach, who resides in the same block of Fairgreen Avenue, was arrested at 1 p.m. Sunday in an Elm Street convenience store after the woman said she observed from a second floor window as he tried to enter the house by pounding on a door and then walked away. Police said they saw Kovach drop something in an empty lot in the 1400 block of Elm Street while running away and they later recovered a screwdriver and pry bar in the grass. The officers observed a missing screen door knob and pry marks at two other doors at the house.
