“Paranormal State” (10 p.m., A&E): From the files of the Paranormal Research Society, this new series spotlights cases about supernatural activity. The PRS investigators, all Pennsylvania State University students, look into instances of bizarre happenings to determine whether there is evidence of the paranormal, or simply an imagination in overdrive. The first episode focuses on an 8 year old who says he’s seeing dead people in his family’s new home. The PRS group was launched by Ryan Buell, who was spurred by his childhood paranormal experiences. His group has worked with law enforcement officials on missing-persons cases and has investigated alleged instances of demonic possession.

“The Hills” (10 p.m., MTV): People have been talking about how real — or fake — “The Hills” is. But it doesn’t matter to the show’s fans, who figure to flock to tonight’s season finale. In the episode, Whitney gets an offer to work in Paris, Lauren struggles to figure out where her relationship with Brody stands, and wedding disputes put Heidi and Spencer’s future in jeopardy.
