Man faces attempted burglary charge

YOUNGSTOWN — City police arrested and jailed a 54-year-old man on an attempted burglary charge shortly after a woman told them she observed him trying to break into a house in the 200 block of Fairgreen Avenue while she was inside.

James Kovach, who resides in the same block of Fairgreen Avenue, was arrested at 1 p.m. Sunday in an Elm Street convenience store after the woman said she observed from a second floor window as he tried to enter the house by pounding on a door and then walked away. Police said they saw Kovach drop something in an empty lot in the 1400 block of Elm Street while running away and that they later recovered a screwdriver and pry bar in the grass.

The officers observed a missing screen door knob and pry marks at two other doors at the victim’s Fairgreen Avenue house.
