Disney on Ice reading tour coming to libraries

YOUNGSTOWN — Disney On Ice is inviting children to the Disney Reading Tour Dec. 20 at the Poland and Liberty libraries. All children who attend the 45-minute events will receive Princess Classics bookmarks and a photo with a Disney princess. The Poland event starts at 10 a.m., and the Liberty event at noon. To reserve a seat for your child, call (330) 757-1852 for Poland, and (330) 759-2589 for Liberty. Seating is limited. Disney on ice’s Princess Classics tour will come to Chevrolet Centre Dec. 19-23. The show combines moments from Disney’s “Cinderella,” “Aladdin,” “The Little Mermaid,” “Sleeping Beauty,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “Mulan” and “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.” Ticket prices range from $14 to $42 and are available at the Chevrolet Centre box office and select Sparkle stores;online at gettix.net; and by calling 1-866-443-8849. Stars of Tomorrow
at New Castle Playhouse

NEW CASTLE, Pa.— The 12th annual Stars of Tomorrow variety show will be 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Jan. 12 at the New Castle Playhouse, 202 E. Hoyt Institute classes

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — The Hoyt Institute of Fine Art has released its schedule of winter classes and workshops, which will run from Jan. 15 to March 8. The classes — with instructor, time and fee — include:

UBotany: Paul Skuta, 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesdays for eight weeks, $105.

UFaux Finishing: Nancy Connelly, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Jan. 28 or Feb. 9, $60.

UDecorative Art: Susan Duffy, 6-8 p.m. Thursdays, $70.

UPortrait Basics, Cartooning, Anatomy Fundamentals: Richard DiGia, each one-hour, four-week class will be held on Saturdays, $70.

Civil War group plans
Christmas gathering

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.— The Western Pennsylvania Civil War Re-enactors Society, 10th Pennsylvania Reserve Volunteer Company G, affiliated with the Mercer County Historical Society, will conduct a Civil War Christmas at the Old Stone House on Route 8 Saturday and Dec. 16. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 16. The Old Stone House will be decorated in Civil War-era style with a period Christmas tree. Re-enactors will be dressed in costume and conduct military drills. Refreshments and period music will be part of the event.

Trumbull theater play

at Boardman Park

BOARDMAN — Elegant String Quartet will give a free Christmas concert at 5 p.m. Dec. 22 at St. James Meeting House in Boardman Park. Handmade decorations by the Holborn Herb Growers Guild will adorn the meeting house. The holiday light display will also be illuminated.
