U. of Akron set for graduation


AKRON — The University of Akron will confer approximately 1,242 undergraduate and graduate degrees at its Fall 2007 Commencement ceremonies at E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Dec. 15.

University President Luis M. Proenza will deliver commencement addresses at both ceremonies. Two student speakers will represent the Fall Class of 2007. Jason Kuzman of Middlefield, an honors student in the College of Engineering, will speak at the morning ceremony. Matthew L. Severs of Litchfield, an honors student from the College of Business Administration, will be the afternoon ceremony’s student speaker.   

At the morning graduation ceremony, an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree will be awarded to Atty. Howard L. Calhoun, civic leader and former member of UA’s Board of Trustees.

“GradFest,” a celebration for the graduates, their families and friends, will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the E.J. Thomas Goodrich Lobby. Sponsored by the university’s Alumni Association, GradFest features music, free snacks and beverages and photo opportunities with UA’s mascot, Zippy.
