SUV plows into home, kills woman
MANSFIELD (AP) — A woman is dead after an SUV plowed through a guardrail and clear through her home, authorities said.
Police believe Lucy Taylor, 47, was sitting on her couch just after 8 p.m. Thursday night when a Ford Explorer smashed through her front living room wall and drove out the rear of the house.
Two men in the vehicle refused treatment for minor injuries and were taken into custody, police said.
The driver, Mike E. Baker, 31, was charged with aggravated vehicular homicide and driving under the influence, said Capt. Marijan Grogoza. She said the Explorer also ran a stop sign and hit a mailbox and street sign before running through the yard and into the home.
Baker remained in the Mansfield police jail Friday afternoon.
The house sits at the end of a road, at a T-style intersection. A neighbor said the guardrail had gone up after a previous accident.
Grogoza said Taylor owned Lucy’s Diner, with her husband, Gary, a long-distance truck driver who returned from West Virginia Friday morning.
