JFK’s big fourth quarter tops Girard
The Eagles rallied from an 18-point deficit to pull out the win.
GIRARD — Nick Brown scored 11 of his 22 points in the fourth quarter as the Warren JFK High boys basketball team rallied from an 18-point deficit to upend Girard 55-51 on Friday.
Brown also had seven rebounds for the Eagles (1-1), which outscored Girard 20-4 in the fourth quarter. Ryan McCollum added 11 points.
Brett Cubellis had 19 points for Girard (0-4), while Adam Charles had 13.
Poland 80, Lakeview 64
CORTLAND — Anthony DeFelice scored 17 points while Ben Umbel added 14 and Ben Danlaw 12 to lead Poland (1-0).
Greg McCumber had 19 points and seven rebounds to lead Lakeview, while Jon Kittle had 11 points and Justin Clark 10. Jarred Clark had five points and four assists.
Howland 53, LaBrae 30
LEAVITTSBURG — The unbeaten (4-0) Tigers’ defense was the key to the victory as the Vikings (0-3) were behind 26-14 at intermission and they couldn’t catch up.
Jared Kirin scored 18 points to spark the Tigers’ attack and he also pulled down 14 rebounds helping Howland control the boards 35-21. Nathan Cope chipped in with 16 points.
Mike Morris led the Vikings with nine points.
Salem 51, Liberty 42
SALEM — It took overtime for the Quakers (4-0) to remain unbeaten. The Leopards took a 10-7 lead in the first quarter. They held a 19-18 margin at halftime and a 32-28 lead heading into the fourth period. The Quakers battled back to tie it 38-38, then outscored Liberty 13-4 in overtime for the win.
Jordan Strabala sparked Salem with 16 points. Austen Hutton added 12 and he had four assists and two steals.
Isaiah Bell scored 12 points for the Leopards and he grabbed seven rebounds. Floyd Showers chipped in with 10 points and he had three assists.
North Canton Hoover 59, Fitch 40
CANTON — Fitch led 14-13 after one quarter, 25-24 at halftime and 31-30 with about four minutes remaining in the third quarter of the Federal League game.
Then the Falcons fell apart as Hoover went on a 29-9 run. Fitch got careless and committed 21 turnovers in the second half.
Mike Miles had nine points and senior Joe Reedy grabbed 10 rebounds for the Falcons (1-3, 0-1).
