CANFIELD — The first adult cosmetology graduating class at Mahoning county Career & technical Center has successfully passed the Ohio State Board of Cosmetology licensing examination with a 100 percent passage rate.

The four students completed the 13-month program and took the state test in November.

Two receive honors
at Heartland Christian

COLUMBIANA — Lowell Wellman has been named Heartland Volunteer of the Year at Heartland Christian School.

Wellman, whose wife, Jan, is also a Heartland volunteer, has served in the school’s custodial services for the past seven years on a volunteer basis every day.

He also renovated the chemistry lab. Bill Henry, a Heartland teacher for nine years, has been named recipient of the 2007 Employee of the Year award by the school.

He teaches Bible doctrine, civics, U.S. history, world history and speech and is the drama director.

Law school open house

AKRON — Prospective law students can learn about opportunities at the University of Akron School of Law during an open house from 1 to 3 p.m. Jan. 5.

The program will include an admissions and financial aid session, a mock law class and a student and alumni panel discussion.

Before the open house, guided tours of the law school will be available beginning at noon.

The University of Akron School of Law is on the corner of Wolf Ledges and University Avenue.
