Speed Read fundraiser set at Oakland Center
YOUNGSTOWN — The first Book-Mahoning Valley Speed Read will be held at 7 p.m. Dec. 18 at the Oakland Center for the Arts, 220 W. Boardman St., and will include milk and cookies with Santa, who will present a new book to the first 500 children.
Those interested in participating in the speed read event will receive a pledge packet and additional information. Every $2.50 pledged will buy a new book for a child, and $25 will buy 10 books for a local child.
Those who collect pledges in advance and attend the event will have an opportunity to take the stage and read as many words as possible in 15 seconds. Those not interested in reading are encouraged to make a donation.
