YOUNGSTOWN — Firefighters found heavy smoke showing when they arrived at 3201 South Ave. around 11:55 p.m. Tuesday and used a chain saw and axes to ventilate the roof, reports show. Fire was discovered under the office area of Executive Auto Sales. Damage was set at $34,000 to the property and contents. The cause is under investigation, but is considered suspicious.
Warriors to meet
YOUNGSTOWN — Warriors Inc., an enrichment program for males from 9 to 25 years old, will meet from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday and Dec. 22 at John Knox United Presbyterian Church, 1806 Market St. Those attending should use the rear entrance. Professor to speak
YOUNGSTOWN — Professor Manu Ampim of California will speak on the “The Vanishing Evidence of Classical African Civilizations: The Case of the Merowe Dam in Sudan” at 7 p.m. Saturday at St. Augustine Episcopal Church, 614 Parmelee Ave. Ampim is an internationally known scholar, is a teacher of research methodology, and leads tour groups to Egypt. His books, DVDs and 2008 Egyptian tour information also will be available. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted and are tax-deductible.
