Ex-Sharon resident faces theft charges

SHARON, Pa. — A former Sharon man is accused of using a relative’s checks and credit cards to make more than $15,000 worth of purchases.

Jason Applegarth, 30, formerly of Daugherty Avenue, Sharon, is charged with burglary, forgery, theft by unlawful taking, access device fraud and bad checks.

Police said Applegarth was related to the victim and would enter the victim’s Sharon home with a key during the day, remove checks and credit and debit cards. At times, he would return the credit cards after using them, they said.

Police said there were about $14,000 worth of cashed checks, more than $1,000 charges made on a debit card and $300 on a Visa card.

Police said they suspect the card charges and check writing started sometime in October. Applegarth surrendered to police Tuesday and was released after posting $10,000 bond.
