County farm bureau members recognized
COLUMBUS — Mahoning County Farm Bureau was recognized for its many achievements by the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation during an annual meeting held Nov. 29-30 in Columbus.
The bureau’s Youth Council won the Spotlight on Safety Contest for the second year with a presentation on “Internet Safety” and placed second in the Outstanding Youth Council competition.
Howard Miller mantel clocks were awarded Jenifer Weaver of North Jackson, a state semi-finalist in the OFBF Discussion Meet and the Excellence in Agriculture category, and Michael Miller of Salem, a semi-finalist in the Young Farmer category.
Kristy Moff off Berlin Center was elected to serve on the SFB Youth Committee for the second year. Serving as youth council advisers are Tim and Aimee Hum of Canfield.
Representing the county at the meeting and joining other state delegates to develop national and state policies were: David Kenreich and Edgar Kurtz of Green Township; Tom Koch, Springfield Township; Michael Miller, Goshen Township; and Marjorie Yerman, Milton Township.
Among the speakers were Chuck Conner, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture; Bob Boggs, Ohio Director of Agriculture; Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland; and Dr. Wesley Jamison of the University of Florida.
