Campbell tape motion awaits legal opinion
The clerk of council and the city’s finance director were rehired.
CAMPBELL — A motion to prohibit the tape and video recording of council caucus, special and regular meetings without council’s permission was withdrawn pending an opinion on the legality of the matter from Law Director Mark Kolmacic.
The motion was proposed at council’s organizational meeting Wednesday. Objection to the motion was raised by Councilwoman Juanita Rich, D-4th, according to Council President William Van Such, who chaired the meeting.
Kolmacic said he expects to provide his legal opinion on the matter to council at its next regular meeting. He said council will likely decide to allow tape and video recordings of all meetings when permission is asked, as long as the request is deemed reasonable and recording would not be disruptive to the meeting.
In other action at the organizational meeting, Clerk of Council Dina Hamilton was rehired by a 5-0 vote; and Finance Director John Leskovyansky Jr. was rehired by a 3-2 vote, with Van Such and Rich voting against the measure.
Van Such announced committee appointments. Chairmen are:
•Finance and Legislation; Collective Bargaining, Van Such.
•Rules and Regulations; Damage and Claims, Public Health and Welfare and Veterans Welfare, Rich.
•General Improvements and Environment Protection; Mini Bus, Councilman Joseph Mazzocca, D-3rd.
•Parks and Public Buildings; Annexations, Zoning and Planning, Councilman Bryan Tedesco, D-2nd.
•Public Safety; Public Utilities and Water Works, Councilman Michael Tsikouris, D-1st.
