Sun Capital affiliate
buys Smokey Bones

ORLANDO, Fla. — Smokey Bones Barbeque & Grill, which has a restaurant in Boardman, said Tuesday that the company is being bought by an affiliate of Sun Capital Partners, Inc. The restaurant company will continue operating under its current name.

Barbeque Integrated, an affiliate of Boca Raton, Fla.-based Sun Capital, signed an agreement to buy the 73-restaurant company from Darden Restaurants. The new owner said it will invest to prepare Smokey Bones for expansion. Sun Capital affiliates own Boston Market, Friendly Ice Cream and other restaurant chains.

Dow Chemical announces
it will cut 1,000 jobs

DETROIT — Dow Chemical Co. announced Tuesday it is cutting 1,000 jobs, or about 2.3 percent of its work force, as part of a plan to rid itself of underperforming businesses and boost its global efficiency.

The Midland-based company said it will exit the automotive sealers business within the next nine to 18 months in North America, Asia and Latin America. It will look at options in its European operations. Other cutbacks include idling a styrene plant in Camacari, Brazil, and closing a cellulose manufacturing facility in Aratu, Brazil.
