Columbiana tops United for third straight victory


Springfield’s Todd Kibby had 23 points against winless Lisbon.

COLUMBIANA — Joe Blinsky scored 27 points and led Columbiana to its third straight victory, a 69-66 victory over United Tuesday night in the Inter-Tri County League’s Tier One.

The Clilppers used a strong final quarter as they outscored the Golden Eagles 30-20 with Blinsky leading the way with 12 points in the session. Andrew Tirpak added 13 points and Josh Weikart had eight including a big 3-point goal in the closing minutes that helped the rally.

United (0-2) was led by Jeremy Walker with 18 points and Jimmy Phillis with 16. The Eagles, using a 23-10 edge in the third quarter, led 45-39 after three quarters.

Springfield 67, Lisbon 43

NEW MIDDLETOWN — Todd Kibby scored 23 points and pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds as Springfield (2-1) rolled past Lisbon.

Joe Musial added 17 points and four assists while the Tigers outrebounded the Blue Devils 32-17.

Lisbon (0-4) was led by Arlan Bailey’s 16 points and six rebounds.

Southern 48, Lowellville 45

SALINEVILLE — Ethan Blatch made a basket and free throw with a minute and eight seconds remaining to give the unbeaten Indians (4-0) the lead and they held on for the victory.

Tyler Baker scored 25 points and he had three assists and three steals for the Indians. Andrew Diaz added nine points and he grabbed 11 rebounds.

Youngstown Christian 59,
Warren Christian 42

WARREN — Sophomore John Pecchia had 16 points and senior David Colbert scored 14 points for Youngstown Christian which stayed in control after taking a 17-13 lead after the first quarter.

Sophomore Victor Shaw had 11 points and Olonzo Johnson, a sophomore, added 10 points for the Eagles (1-1).

Dan Jolly and Rob Arquilla had 13 points apiece for the Rams.

Mathews 65, Brookfield 62

VIENNA — The Warriors (0-1) had a chance to tie the score but missed a shot with two seconds remaining in the game.

Rick Sommers sparked Mathews with 19 points. John Scudier chipped in with 16. Chad Kostra led the Warriors with 18 points and Anthony Liberti and Brandon Swezey each had 17.

Southeast 62, Garfield 58

RAVENNA — Matt Brown tossed in 18 points and Joe Lemon added 14 as Southeast (1-2) won for the first time this season.

Garfield (2-1) led after three quarters but was outscored 23-18 in the final eight minutes.
