Nurse files to challenge McNally

YOUNGSTOWN — A retired licensed practical nurse filed nominating petitions to challenge Mahoning County Commissioner John McNally IV in the March 4 Democratic primary.

This is the first time Mary “Roby” Lyden of Canfield, 62, is seeking public office.

Lyden has served on the county’s Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services Board and the county Health and Human Services Board.

McNally, 38, of Youngstown, and Commissioner Anthony Traficanti, 41, of Poland, are up for re-election next year and plan to run for a second four-year term.

Traficanti will also face opposition in the Democratic primary.

Eric C. Ungaro of Poland, the son of former Youngstown Mayor Patrick Ungaro, filed nominating petitions with the county board of elections to run against Traficanti in the Democratic primary.

A special education teacher and varsity football defensive coordinator for the Howland school district, Ungaro, 38, is seeking public office for the second time. He lost the 1999 election for Youngstown’s 3rd Ward position.

The filing deadline to run in the primary is Jan. 4. Ohio’s primary is two months earlier than usual because of the presidential race.
