Brunner joins suit against Ind. Voter ID

CHICAGO (AP) — A handful of top state election officials, including Ohio’s Jennifer Brunner, have joined a lawsuit challenging Indiana’s Voter ID law.

The lawsuit, filed by the state Democratic Party over a law requiring every voter to produce photo identification, is scheduled to be heard by the U.S. Supreme Court on Jan. 9. Democrats charge the law violates the equal protection provisions of the U.S. Constitution.

Brunner said she joined four other secretaries of state on an amicus brief in the case because she believes the outcome could affect a similar law in place in Ohio.
