Blaze guts business, apartment

AUSTINTOWN — Firefighters battled a blaze that gutted a business and an apartment at 4225 Mahoning Ave. on Monday night.

No one was injured, fire officials said.

The fire began at 7:42 p.m. at Ralph’s Cutz barber shop, but firefighters were still at the scene at 11 p.m.

Occupants of the apartment adjacent to the business were not at home, firefighters said.

Firefighters said they did not know of a cause Monday night.

There were two other fires this weekend in the township. A fire at 256 N. Edgehill Ave. at 1:30 p.m. Saturday caused $75,000 in damage. Mary Kay Wilburn owns the house. There were no injuries, and the fire department is investigating the cause.

Another fire at 3647 Monaca Ave. started in a wall above a fireplace. That blaze caused $12,000 in damage, the fire department reported.
