Park Vista Retirement Community celebrates its 60th anniversary

YOUNGSTOWN — For the last 60 years, Park Vista Retirement Community has become an institution on the city’s North Side and throughout Mahoning County.

On Thursday, the organization will pause to remember its history. Park Vista has invited its 300 residents, 300 employees and leaders from the community to join in a celebratory gala in honor of its 60th anniversary from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Park Vista South, 1216 Fifth Avenue.

“It’s an exciting period for us,” said executive director Brian Kolenich. “It just kind of represents our growth in the area.”

Musical entertainment will be provided. Guests will enjoy hors d’oeuvres and a selection of wines.

“We’re going to have great food by our chef Mark Bittler,” Kolenich said. “It’s just going to be a really nice holiday event.”

Beginning as a 12-resident “home for older adults” on Illinois Avenue, Park Vista has extended its reach to include adult day care, rehabilitation and independent living. Its operations take place in four facilities throughout the county.

The retirement community also operates the Mahoning County Senior Center, 1110 Fifth Avenue.

Park Vista is a certified provider of continuing care for the elderly. It is owned and operated by Ohio Presbyterian Retirement Services.
