Lavender sparks Ohio State past Mississippi


COLUMBUS (AP) — Jentel Lavender had 24 points and 15 rebounds, and Ohio State held Mississippi scoreless for seven minutes down the stretch in the No. 19 Buckeyes’ 69-55 victory over the Rebels Sunday.

Mississippi (3-3) took a 51-48 lead on a lay-up by Shawn Goff with 8:06 remaining. The Buckeyes (6-2) then scored 17 straight points, including nine by Lavender, before Ole Miss scored with 56 seconds left.

Ashlee Trebilcock added 17 points for Ohio State, which shot 38 percent from the field. Star Allen added eight points and eight rebounds.

Shantell Black led the Rebels with 15 points, and Kayla Melson and Elizabeth Robertson had 10 points apiece. Ole Miss shot 32 percent from the field.
