Hunter hit by stray bullet near Lisbon

LISBON — The Ohio Department of Natural Resources is investigating an apparent hunting accident where a man was injured by a bullet ricochet.

The Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office was called to the Mundy Tree Farm on state Route 45 at 9:48 a.m. today to assist. The sheriff’s department said the victim, Dave Freeman, 59, of Lisbon was conscious when deputies arrived.

Five other hunters were nearby and told deputies that a 43-year-old Irondale man hunting with the group shot at a deer and they believe the bullet ricocheted and hit Freeman.

Deputies did not indicate what injuries Freeman had, but said an ambulance arrived and started treatment. The ODNR could not be reached for details Saturday night.
