11 people cited for seat-belt violations

SHARON, Pa. — A seat-belt-safety check patrol netted citations for 11 people who were not wearing their seat belts.

Sharon Police conducted the patrol Sunday nightas part of a grant they received from Buckle Up Pennsylvania. Sharon Police Capt. Travis Martwinski said officers stopped 29 vehicles while patrolling the southeast section of the city.

In addition to the seat-belt violations, officers gave citations for 12 moving violations, one person driving while having their license suspended, two driving under the influence arrests, one drug-related offense and one warrant arrest.

Martwinski said this is part of an ongoing effort, and there will be two more special patrols searching for seat-belt-law violators next year under this grant.

A second grant under Pennsylvania’s Smooth Operator program will pay for special patrols to be held at four different times through September. That program focuses on patrolling areas with high numbers of traffic crashes, Martwinski said.
