SAT SCORES By the numbers


The College Board releases reams of statistics by state on the performance of students on the SAT test.

Number of overall students: The number of students who took the 2007 exam was 1,494,531, almost 1.5 million. Minority students accounted for 39 percent of the total number.

Ohio males: 15,900 male students took the test. They scored a critical reading average of 536 points out of 800 points, math average of 542, and writing, 522.
Ohio females: 17,890 female students took the test. They scored a reading average of 533, math average of 525 and writing average of 526.

Pennsylvania males: 49,234 male students took the test. They scored a reading average of 491, math average of 483, and writing average of 488.

Pennsylvania females: 56,106 females took the test. They scored a reading average of 491, math average of 483, and writing average of 488.
