Fitch needs five sets to beat Boardman


The Falcons posted their first win of the season and a Federal League win.

AUSTINTOWN — Fitch rallied from a two-set deficit to beat Federal League rival Boardman 23-25, 21-25, 26-24, 25-22, 15-9 in a volleyball match on Thursday.

Sam Kozbial, senior, led the Falcons (1-1, 1-1 FL) with nine kills, 10 blocks, 12 points and two aces. Rebecca Evans had eight kills, 13 digs, six points and two blocks. Michelle Basista had 22 digs.

Danielle Bletso paced the Spartans (0-2, 0-2) with 31 kills and nine blocks. Danielle Williams had 52 assists and Stephanie Sfara had 12 digs and 18 kills.

HOWLAND — Taylor Summerfield had 11 points, five aces, 14 kills, 30 assists, two blocks, five digs and six saves to lead Howland in a Metro Athletic Conference match.

Katlyn Flick added 16 points, six aces, seven kills, two assists, eight digs and one save, while Stephanie Wisniewski contributed six points, one ace, 10 digs and one save for the Tigers (2-1, 2-0).

For Canfield (0-4, 0-2 MAC), Kelsey Owen had nine points, three aces, seven kills and five digs, while Kaylie Luklan added had five points, six kills, 11 blocks and eight digs, and Megg Andrews six kills and seven blocks.

SALEM — Senior backcourt specialist Paige Kenreigh had 12 aces, junior setter Taylor Toothman had nine aces and 19 assists, sophomore ace hitter Amy Scullion had six aces and nine kills and senior ace hitter Katie Scullion had six kills for Salem (2-0, 2-0 MAC).

Briana Camaret had 10 digs for Struthers (0-4).

YOUNGSTOWN — Kristen Donouhue led the Cardinals with 13 points, three aces and five digs, while Kelly Donouhue had 25 assists. Jacci Wyman chipped in with seven kills and Dayna Daltorio had eight kills and three aces for Mooney (3-0).

NEW MIDDLETOWN — Chelsea Bowker sparked the Rebels (3-1, 2-0 ITCL) with seven points, six aces, 13 kills, three blocks and four digs. Tess Reash had 18 points and 10 digs, while Paige McElroy had 24 assists, seven kills and five digs.

Whitney Yeager led the Tigers with 10 kills, five blocks and four points. Ashley Daves had seven points and four kills.

Morgan Bonekovic led the Warriors (2-1, 0-1) with 27 kills, three points, 34 digs and three blocks. Brittany Hiner had 10 points and 42 assists.
