Cooper’s 100th goal paces Yo. Christian


The Eagles beat Conneaut 8-2 and Cooper scored four goals.

AUSTINTOWN — Youngstown Christian senior Kara Cooper scored four goals to pass the 100-goal milestone for her career, leading the Eagles in an 8-2 victory over Conneaut on Thursday at Highway Tabernacle.

Cooper, the school’s record-holder, entered the game with 97 goals. She also had two assists.

Cooper’s younger sister, Kristi, added three goals and two assists for the Eagles (2-0). Schanvel Wall scored a goal, while Eleni Yargo and Sophie Yargo had assists.

Christine Church scored both goals for Conneaut.

Devanie Wolmack had 13 saves for the Eagles.

Boardman 2, Perry 0

BOARDMAN — Jamie Avona scored a goal and also assisted on Taylor Deley’s goal to lead Boardman (2-0, 2-0 Federal League).

Boardman goalie Cheyenne Khatib delivered eight saves.

Perry (1-1-2) goalie Megan McMaster had six saves.

Hubbard 4, Newton Falls 1

HUBBARD — Seniors Liz Crafton and Megan Webb, freshman Jamie Hopinson and sophomore Kristin Tobey scored for Hubbard (2-1).

Lauren Mauric had the goal for Newton Falls.

JVs: Hubbard, 5-1.

Springfield 9, Crestview 0

NEW MIDDLETOWN — Carrie Ritzler had three goals and Melissa Huffman, Breanne Mincher and Allyson Berry each had two for Springfield (2-0).

Katie Bretz added two assists and Heather Cozak had three saves.

For Crestview, Shanea Beiling had 13 saves and Kelly Peppel had three saves.

Late Wednesday
West Branch 3, Alliance 1

BELOIT — Taylor King scored two goals and Karen Steiger added the third as West Branch defeated Alliance. Emily Rekolt had two assists and Kaitlyn King one, while Tami Pelleman had six saves in goal.

Boys

NEWTON FALLS — Patrick McGarry and Evan Hideg scored goals and Tom Stark and Eric Berberich added assists for Liberty, which took a 2-0 halftime lead in the Trumbull Athletic Conference game and held on for a 2-1 victory.

Josh Hideg added seven saves for the Leopards (2-1, 1-0).

For Newton Falls (3-1, 0-1), Jerrod Cooper scored the goal and Dave Pagano had seven saves.

JVs: 0-0.

Poland 4, Niles 1

NILES — Senior outside midfielder Blake Rhein had three goals and one assist, while junior midfielder Ryan Rovnak had the other goal for Poland (2-1-0, 2-0MAC).

Sophomore midfielder Ryan Storkel had one assist for the Bulldogs.

Nick Liste had the lone goal for Niles (1-2-0, 0-1 MAC).

Poland’s Andrew McElroy had four saves, while J.J. Crowley had seven stops for Niles.

Poland attempted 12 shots on goal to five by Niles.

JVs: Poland, 3-0.

Crestview 2, Lordstown 2

LORDSTOWN — All of the goals were scored in the first half. Jordan DiEugenio and Ryan Pal each scored for the Red Devils. Andrey Patrick and Zach Hall had an assist apiece.

Mitchell See and Aaron Stewart each scored a goal for the Rebels (2-1-1). Brian Bechtel and Nicholas Magill had an assist apiece.

Heartland Christian 4,
Columbiana 1

COLUMBIANA — Justin Storm scored two goals for the Lions (4-1). Kyle Knepper scored a goal and had an assist and Tyler Burgess had a goal.

Matt Varian and Durand Foutz each had an assist.

Heartland Christian had 42 shots on goal, compared to 12 for the Clippers. Aaron Shields had 11 saves.

A.J. Steiner had 24 stops. Alex Vable had 23 saves for Columbiana.
