Canfield, Howland tie; Fitch stays unbeaten


South Range pulled past Columbiana in an Inter Tri-County League game.

HOWLAND — The Canfield High boys soccer team rallied with two second-half goals to earn a 2-2 tie with Howland in a Metro Athletic Conference game on Wednesday.

David Kanotz scored on an assist from Tim Hutchinson to cut the deficit to one and Hutchinson tied the game on an unassisted goal with 11 minutes left for Canfield (1-0-1).

Tyler Rubesich scored Howland’s first goal on an assist from Ryan Gerin and Eric Albani followed with an unassisted goal for the Tigers (0-0-3, 0-0-1).

Eric Clayton had seven saves for Canfield while Dan Miller had 10 for Howland. Canfield outshot Howland 18-12.

JVs: Howland 3-2.

South Range 3, Columbiana 2

COLUMBIANA — Following a 1-1 halftime tie, South Range scored twice in the second half to prevail.

Alex Baker had two goals and Andrew Edwards one, while Nick Scheetz had an assist for the winners. Luke Yeagley had 15 saves for the Raiders (2-2).

Girls

Fitch 2, Canton McKinley 0

AUSTINTOWN — Alex Pancoe and Kelsey Martin each scored second-half goals to lift Fitch in a Federal League game.

Ali Tolich had three saves for the Falcons (3-0-1, 1-0), who outshot McKinley 21-3.

Sarah Milligan had 10 saves for the Bulldogs (1-1-0, 0-1).

JVs: Fitch 2, Liberty 0.

Hathaway Brown 3, Mooney 0

SHAKER HEIGHTS — Lani Smith had a goal and two assists and Alex Dayneka had two goals and an assist for state-ranked Hathaway Brown, which led 2-0 at halftime.

Ellie Shorey had one save for Hathaway Brown (2-0), which could meet Mooney in the regional tournament later this year.

Megan McLaughlin had nine saves, while Maggie Vinopal and Katie Griswald had shots for Mooney (1-1).

JVs: Hathaway Brown 3-0.

Badger 5, Py Valley 2

Taylor Phillips had two goals and an assist, while Jenna Miller added a goal and an assist for Badger (2-1). Amelia Deraway and Lauren Hall each added a goal while Shawna McNeely, Adrianna Braho and Sarah Smith had assists. Katie Dvorack and Kelsey Flowers combined for seven saves.

Nicole Virostek and Mariah Reefer scored for Py Valley (1-2) and Tiffany Payne had both assists. Jillee Clute had 12 saves.
