YOUNGSTOWN — An AK-47 rifle was used to shoot three occupants in a car on the South Side, leaving one in critical condition.

When police arrived at Indianola and Firnley avenues just past 11 p.m. Monday they found a utility pole and live wires down, and two of the victims inside a Mercury Cougar.

The front seat passenger, Kadeem Gilmore, 18, of East Warren Avenue had been hit multiple times, including one possible shot to the head, reports show. He was in critical condition Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Health Center.

The driver, Chauncey Walker, 26, of East Judson Avenue was hit in the arm and leg, said Detective Sgt. Ron Rodway. Walker was in satisfactory condition at the hospital.

The back seat passenger, 16-year-old Allante Donaldson, ran from the scene after being shot and had a motorist take him to his West Florida Avenue home. Donaldson, whose injury wasn’t known, was treated and later discharged.

Rodway said drugs were found on Gilmore at the hospital. Reports show Gilmore, who also has a Girard address, had a bag of suspected crack cocaine on him.

“A lot of neighbors heard gunfire but didn’t see another car,” Rodway said. He said no motive was given for the shooting.

At the hospital, Donaldson told police that he and his companions were traveling west on Indianola with the music up loud. He said no cars passed them and suspected the shooter was on foot.

The car crashed after the driver was hit.

An errant bullet penetrated a house in the 500 block of East Indianola. The resident was not harmed.
