Aug. 22

Criminal mischief: A man returned to his Johnston Place residence to find his vehicle covered with syrup and butter.

Aug. 23

Domestic violence: Officers arrested a 58-year-old man at his Botsford Street home on charges of domestic violence and obstructing official business after his wife alleged the man struck their teenage daughter near the right ear during an argument. He also admitted lying about having called 911 regarding the girl, police said.

Aug. 24

Identity fraud: A Poland man found out someone made a $280 unauthorized online purchase with his information.

Aug. 24

Theft: More than $300 worth of clothing and purses was stolen from Gabriel Bros., 850 Boardman-Poland Road, resulting in theft charges being filed against a 19-year-old Warren woman and a Southington woman, 26.

Attempted burglary: A rear window to a vacant residence in the 100 block of Mill Creek Drive was pried open.

Theft/criminal damaging: A vehicle’s vent window was pried open in the 4000 block of Glenwood Avenue before a $60 MP3 player was taken.

Theft: Police arrested an Austintown girl and a Youngstown girl, both 17, after $140 worth of undergarments was stolen from Kohl’s, 383 Boardman-Poland Road.

Theft: A 25-year-old Youngstown woman was charged with theft, and a Struthers man, 23, with criminal damaging and complicity to theft, after packages containing DVDs were opened and some DVDs stolen from Wal-Mart, 1300 Doral Drive.

Theft: An employee with Power Cellular Solutions in the Southern Park Mall found a $202.50 unauthorized transaction was made to the business’s account.

Counterfeit: A phony $20 bill was used to buy merchandise at Walgreens Pharmacy, 525 E. Midlothian Blvd.

Theft: A $600 cell phone was removed from AT&T Mobility, 650 Boardman-Canfield Road.

Vandalism: A Crystal Drive man discovered someone deliberately damaged a cable box at his residence, interrupting his TV, Internet and phone services.

Vandalism: A Columbiana man told police a rock was thrown at his car as he drove near Market Street, denting a side door and damaging a mirror and rear fender. Damage came to $850.

Fraud: A West Glen Drive woman noticed her checking information was used without consent.

Breaking and entering: Someone forced open a garage door at Deva Inc., 482 E. Western Reserve Road, before taking several tools.

Burglary: Police found no signs of forced entry after a break-in at a Brookwood Road residence in which a DVD player and a $1,000 laptop computer were stolen.

Attempted breaking and entering: Someone used a crowbar to try to pry open a front door at Paul’s Tires and Smoke Shop, 4852 Southern Blvd.

Theft: A cell phone was removed from a Shadyside Drive residence.

Burglary: An elderly Mathews Road woman told officers a man claiming to work for a bug exterminating company entered her residence and took several checks.

Arrest: A Youngstown man, 25, was picked up in the 800 block of Boardman-Poland Road. He was wanted on charges of assault and failure to appear in court on a probation-violation count.

Drug paraphernalia: Authorities issued a summons to a Boardman man, 47, after a traffic stop near Mill Creek Drive. A soda can with several holes and used as an improvised crack pipe as well as a suspected crack pipe were found, police said.

Burglary: A woman reported someone entered her sister’s Melbourne Avenue home through a rear door.

Arrest: A 48-year-old Youngstown man was taken into custody on a felony warrant charging him with passing bad checks after being pulled over in the 7500 block of Market Street.

Criminal damaging: A man in the 8400 block of Crystal Drive reported tire damage to his car.

Assault: A man and a woman reported each assaulted the other in the 7300 block of Tiffany Boulevard. The woman reported being struck in the face and knocked to the ground; the man said he was scratched during the argument.

Vandalism: Police found a broken glass door, resulting in $500 of damage, at TR Party Centre, 4172 Market St.

Identity theft: A Carter Circle woman reported a former friend stole her credit card and used her information to secure a debt.

Theft: Four DVD box sets were removed from Target, 417 Boardman-Poland Road.

Burglary: A man looking after a home in the 400 block of Melbourne Avenue found a rear door had been kicked in. The residence also was ransacked.

Assault: A woman told police someone shot her son with an air gun near their Hitchcock Road residence. The son had swollen areas on his neck and left forearm.

Theft: A woman reported an iron weather vane stolen from her residence in the 4400 block of South Avenue.

Theft: A Girard man in the 6500 block of Market Street reported two 12-inch speakers, an in-dash compact-disc player, two amplifiers and an electric guitar stolen from his vehicle.

Theft/forgery: A 50-year-old Cleveland woman was charged with both crimes after $186 worth of merchandise was taken from the J.C. Penney store in the Southern Park Mall, and after police said they found a forged Ohio identification card.

Identity theft: A Becky Court woman discovered someone used her personal information to pay $6,284 for airfare and hotel accommodations.

Theft: A wallet was taken from a Southern Boulevard residence.

Breaking and entering: Someone broke into Buchman’s Shoes, 7006 Market St., through a side window. An undisclosed amount of money was missing.

Theft: Four Youngstown girls age 13 to 16 were charged after eight pieces of merchandise valued at a total of $137 were stolen from the J.C. Penney store.

Breaking and entering: A shed was broken into at a West Midlothian Boulevard home. Stolen were a bicycle and a scooter.

Stolen property: While responding to a report of a possible carjacking in the 4900 block of Southern Boulevard, police charged an 18-year-old Youngstown man with receiving stolen property, obstructing official business and resisting arrest. A man reported someone drove away in his car, and the suspect fled from officers, they said.

Aug. 26

Breaking and entering: A woman in the 4500 block of Euclid Boulevard reported her garage had been entered.

Burglary: An Orlo Lane man reported two cordless blowers, three weed trimmers and a riding mower stolen after someone entered his garage.

Criminal damaging: A mailbox was damaged in the 8400 block of Crystal Drive.

Theft by deception: A worker for Family Video, 5205 Market St., reported someone engaged in a quick-change scheme, leaving the business $30 short.

Criminal mischief: A male exited his vehicle and tossed eggs, striking a residence several times in the 5200 block of Oyster Bay Drive.

Domestic violence: A 23-year-old woman and a man, 30, both of Arlene Avenue, were charged. The man alleged she punched him and knocked out two teeth; she alleged the man choked her and caused swelling to her left eye.

Domestic violence: A 41-year-old Afton Avenue man was charged after his fiancée alleged he struck her in the head and choked her twice, leaving her unconscious. The woman also had cuts and bruises.

Assault: A New Jersey woman was not hurt after reporting being assaulted at a residence in the 8500 block of Glenwood Avenue.

Theft: A Mathews Road man reported $320 stolen from his home.

Criminal damaging: A Glenwood Avenue man found a large scratch on his vehicle as well as $1,200 of damage to his in-ground swimming pool cover.

Arrest: A Youngstown man, 22, was charged with menacing and reckless operation of a motor vehicle related to a situation in which a Poland man’s car had been intentionally struck by another vehicle during an argument with another driver on Southern Boulevard.

Theft: A 21-year-old Youngstown woman was charged after being accused of stealing $46 worth of merchandise from Dollar General, 859 E. Midlothian Blvd.

Arrest: After responding to a fight among several females in the 7400 block of West Boulevard, police charged a Boardman man, 18, with furnishing alcohol to underage persons and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Two 17-year-old girls were charged with underage consumption of alcohol; one of them also faced one count of disorderly conduct.

Recovered property: Police found a vehicle in Liberty that had been stolen from The Donnell Auto Group, 7955 Market St.
