Poland boys roll to 11-5 win as Gavolas, Rovnak lead way


They each scored two goals and had one assist against East Liverpool.

POLAND — Alan Gavolas had three goals and Ryan Rovnak two with one assist to lead Poland High over East Liverpool, 11-5, in a boys soccer game Monday night.

Blake Rhein, Taylor Malaniak and Ryan Storkel each contributed one goal and one assist for the Bulldogs, while Brian Garcar added one goal and Wesley Shure, Ben Pearcer, Tom Ziccardi and Dan Hunt one assist each.

For East Liverpool (0-1), Levi Payne had two goals and Joe Zirillo, Tyler Cowan and Steve Betteridge one goal apiece.

Poland took 34 shots, East Liverpool 11. Poland goalies Cooper Kostelic and Andrew McElroy had four and two saves, respectively.

East Liverpool goalie Sam Kinsey had 20 saves.

Ursuline 1, Howland 1

YOUNGSTOWN — Kevin Patrick scored an unassisted goal about midway through the second half for Ursuline into a tie at Wick Recreation Area.

Howland (0-0-2) took a 1-0 lead about halfway through the first half on Eric Albani’s unassisted goal.

Ursuline (0-1-2) goalie John Colla had 13 saves. Howland goalie Daniel Miller had four saves.

JVs: Ursuline, 1-0.

Hubbard 10, LaBrae 1

LEAVITTSBURG — R.J. Lee and John Madeline had three goals each to lead Hubbard (1-0).

Jeremy Frazzini added two goals while Alex Chick and Phillip Pesch had one goal each.

Miles Williams had three assists for the Eagles, while Lee had two and Chick, Pesch, Ed Zitnik, Greg Orr and Galen Hayek one assist apiece.

Hayek and Zac Schmidt had four and two saves, respectively, in goal.

Bobby Dragash had an unassisted goal for LaBrae while goalie Andrew Ozanich delivered 15 saves.

Crestview 2, East Palestine 1

NEW WATERFORD — Justin Kleinknecht and Aaron scored a goal apiece for the unbeaten Rebels (2-0). Nicholas Magill had an assist.

David Mazza scored the goal for the Bulldogs (0-1).

South Range 4, United 0

NORTH LIMA — Alex Baker scored two goals and had an assist to lead the Raiders (1-2) to victory. Nick Sheetz score a goal and had an assist. Nathan Lotze scored a goal and Josh Gorman had an assist.

Liberty 5, Bristol 1

BRISTOLVILLE — Patrick McGarry and Mathew Tharp scored two goals apiece for the Leopards (1-1). Abel Ayana added a goal.

Tom Stark had two assists, while Evan Hideg and Eric Wolf each had one.

Patrick Daugherty scored the goal for Bristol (0-3).

Liberty had 24 shots on goal and Bristol seven. Joshua Hideg of the Leopards had six saves, while Evens had 10 for Bristol.
